Emilia Clarke was all smiles at TIFF

Emilia Clarke was at the Toronto International Film Festival this weekend, doing the red carpet for her new safe cracker movie DOM HEMINGWAY. That's encouraging to see her in something like this, because I worry about Emilia sometimes. I worry because whenever something about her gets posted anywhere, what are the first responses from the viewers/readers? Typically, it's a reference to her dragon mother alter ego Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones. That's a situation with typecast written all over it. Sci-fi and/or fantasy productions are the places where actor's careers go to die. Think of all the wreckage from formerly promising careers that's still getting battered against the rocky coast of the STAR WARS franchise. I love Emilia on the show, but how difficult is it going to be for people to get over her as Daenerys once GoT goes away? She does look totally different without the blonde wig, so that might be her saving grace when the time comes for her to separate herself from her dragon-wielding past. She just better wait a while before doing anything that requires her to go blonde, lest she risk turning her new rom-com's audience into chanting crowds of Dothraki zealots.

She never fails to look utterly gorgeous, like seriously what a beautiful young woman. Jedd, who do you want her to play, and in what new film?

Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot. A bunch of names have been bandied about including Camilla Luddington (the latest voice actress in the series), Hayley Atwell, Kaya Scodelario and Gemma Arterton, but I think Emilia really could pull it off. She's got the posh accent down pat, has experience with action/stunts to a degree and her personality seems close enough to that of Lara in the newest game.

I don't know much about it, but from what you say it sounds like she would be great for the part, what do you think her chances are for getting it?

I think Camilla Luddington is probably the frontrunner but I wouldn't say Emilia is a longshot. We haven't heard anything really solid about the movie yet beyond Marti Noxon signing on to write it, so it might be a bit before casting is confirmed.
