It's safe for you to call me a shameless "Shameless" fan. I didn't start watching the show until the third season had completed its original run on Showtime and then I inhaled the first two seasons in their entirety on DVD and moved on to Season Three just this past weekend. Hell, I've even considered taking the plunge and paying the ridiculous price to get the cable channel running in my home as the fourth season debuts this month.
What amazes me after watching the show (other than how if you pay too close attention, it's nearly painful just how powerfully unrealistic the antics of the Gallagher family are) is that aside from Joan Cusack, no one on the show's been nominated for anything big. Yes, the characters on the show can at times be utterly repulsive, in particular that of patriarch Frank Gallagher, played deliciously by William H Macy. But how are they any worse than the rampant ass lesions from "Breaking Bad"?
And head of the family, eldest daughter Fiona Gallagher, as played by the frequently nude and always heart string pulling Emmy Rossum is actually a really decent person for a TV character. Please don't tell me it's because she's still too pretty to be considered an award-worthy actress because that shit just isn't fair. Look at these tears here, in the freezing cold! How can you not want to warm her up with trophied praise?
