My fascination with Nikki Cox goes back a long way. I first became enamored with her way back in the late 80s, when she played the alien-of-the-week in an early episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. She looked a little weird, but for a total sci-fi geek like I was, a cutie my age on one of my favorite shows was an instant attraction. Of course, like most people, I didn't know Nikki by name until Unhappily Ever After and Norm. My god, the tits on Nikki in some of those outfits, that hair and the fact that she could hang with big time comedians and actually make me laugh even as my erection threatened to distract me from everything. Shortly after that she got her own show and began to spread her slutty smart vibe into the movies. I couldn't have been happier to see more and more people join me on her bandwagon. Nikki was the best and for a time she was my choice for the most perfect woman ever.
Now comes the point in the story when things take a turn. Those of you familiar with Nikki know what that turn was. For those unaware, any kind of Google search for her will explain the situation pretty quick. Suffice it to say that sometime around 2005 or so, Nikki embarked on an ill-advised flirtation with cosmetic surgery, which culminated the single worst lip injection in the history of the procedure. It's something I don't like to think about too often, as she was so gorgeous already. Put too much time into pondering why beautiful celebs mutilate themselves and you'll go nuts.
The result of it all was that Nikki pretty much went away. The cool, smart and funny hottie got sabotaged by her elective surgery nightmares and instead of being rejuvenated by the scalpel, wound up looking years older than she is. That's too bad, because she is quite an interesting person, who seems to be above a lot of the commonplace celebrity bullshit. This is a woman who dated Bobcat Goldthwait, of all people, and actually got dumped by him, if you can believe that. She's never seemed to be the sort to value a person's physical attributes over their talent and brains. Why she couldn't respect herself in the same way, we may never know.
Circumstances aside, I do miss having Nikki around. She's still young and she could have had a lot of good on screen years ahead of her. What can you do? At least we still have the memories, a few of which I've collected for your viewing pleasure below.
