I was completely torn between the two lovely ladies in competition in the last Face Off. Deciding between Olivia Wilde and Amber Heard proved just too hard a choice to make for me. Thankfully you folks were more inclined to chose, picking Olivia the winner by a 7 to 4 vote. Great choice, but then again either option would have been cool with me.
Now, on to this week, where we're comparing two ladies with some serious political ambitions. The land of Westeros, on HBO's Game of Thrones, has a lot of viers for the fabled Iron Throne. Yet the two most covetous women angling for the rule of the Seven Kingdoms have to be Cersei and Daenerys. Both daughters of high ranking families in the kingdom, they are also both ready to get down to some serious bloodshedding, backstabbing and booty-slapping to get what they want. Yet which one is the more desirable of the two? Is that even the right question to ask? We shall see below.
In a show pretty much jam packed with hotties getting naked, Cersei is the one hottie who hasn't really let us know what's happening underneath all those long dresses. Apart from that unfortunate twincest incident in the tower (eww), she's been pretty much clothed for the entire 1st season. Let's hope she manages to get herself a little less clothed this time around, as it's a well known fact that Lena Headey is a stunning hottie. Let's also hope that reveal doesn't happen with any of her family in the room.
It was understood from the get go that Daenerys is rocking a super hot body which is not only fantastic, but also regularly on display. Despite any unfortunate twin familiarity she might also have been getting down to in her past, she nonetheless wins here by a significant margin. Chances are good we'll be seeing a lot more of her body in the coming weeks and we know damn well she isn't going to be having any family members in the room when it happens.
It's tough to appreciate the beauty of a woman so conniving and heartless as Cersei. She's certainly a remarkable beauty on the outside, but her inner coldness and cruelty downplays a lot of that beauty. This is probably why she doesn't get down to a lot of skin. They don't want to make her too physically appealing, as it's easier to hate someone if they're not bewitching you with their looks.
One of the things most enjoyable about Emilia in this role is that sweet face of hers, which creates an interesting contrast to the forceful personality she develops after the events of season 1. In season 2, she's still got the sweet-faced, fair maiden look about her, only now it's backed up with the the bad ass, leather-bound, dragon lord persona. It should be a treat to see how those two elements play off one another.
Likewise, it's tough to want to get with a woman so thoroughly evil and vicious as Cercei. You just never know when you're going to find yourself on the wrong end of her wrath. She's left enough bodies in her wake to bridge the Narrow Sea. That sort of thing tends to be a boner killer. About the only person in the 7 Kingdoms who can handle her is the one person who matches her tit for tat in the nastiness department - confirmed asshole and partner in crime/incest, Jaime, her brother. Yeah, let's not go there.
Daenerys was a bit of a mixed bag at the beginning of the first season in terms of her appeal as a sexual creature. She was naked quite often, which was nice, but her obvious inexperience and fear of being with her rather roughshod warrior husband was not a big turn on. Thankfully the two of them warmed up to each other later, eliminating that whole princess sex slave thing that was putting a dent in the mood of things at the start of season 1.
This almost went to Cersei, as she is often the main thrust behind a lot of the power-grabbing and plotting that happens on the show. Yet, for the most part, her strategy is to influence others to do her bidding while she stays in the background. Obscurity behind the authority of a man might be the unfortunate lot of most women living in the era this story samples from, but it's still somewhat lacking when compared to Daenerys's lofty goals.
Not only is Daenerys trying to get the throne back for the Targaryen family line, but by being the sole remaining member of her family, she's also apparently planning to sit on it as well. And did I mention she's got dragons? Or the fact that she's going to have to fight the 38 or something other armies across the Narrow Sea who also have their eyes set on the throne? Maybe overly ambitious might be the better term for her, but she's still got her eyes set on putting another Targaryen in the top spot at King's Landing.
So yeah, Cersei doesn't seem so ambitious enough that she forgets her place in the social order. Still, that doesn't stop her from finding a way to screw over anyone who stands in the way of her plans. The woman is pure venom in that regard. Totally without remorse or hesitation, she strikes like a Cobra and kills just as readily. That might not garner her many friends, but it could make her the victor in this game everyone is playing.
I wouldn't call Daenerys a pushover. Both women are pretty heavy handed with their enemies. However, Dany functions with a certain set of principles in mind. She doesn't seem the sort to sneak poison into someone's drink or attempt to murder small kids. With the crowd she's up against in on the other side of Westeros, that kind of focus on frontal assaults might be her undoing. Still, it's going to be interesting to see how these two deal with one another if they ever meet face to face.
Daenerys is packing a lot of firepower, in more ways than one. Apart from being an incredible hottie with a body of sublime proportions, she's also a spirited woman who presents a serious threat amidst all those angling for the top spot in Westeros. I mean come on - the woman's got dragons on her side. Sure Cersei's pretty, but she has all the tenderness of a block of steel. And without any semblance of a conscience or moral code, all you're likely to get with her is your head cut off for your trouble.
Overall, the tender yet quickly toughening khaleesi looks like the winner here by a significant margin.
