Ya'll chose Ana de Armas over Haley Bennett in last week's Face Off, even though it looks like we're going to see a lot more of Haley in years to come. But I understand. Just like their cigars, it's hard to deny the goodness of a beautiful Cuban hottie.
This week sees Eva Green once again playing the witch in Tim Burton's MISS PEREGRINE'S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN. It sure would be nice if Tim would go back to doing more original stuff, but I can see why he might want to keep bringing Eva back to play these kinds of roles. Girl has always had a sexy witch vibe about her, right from the start. Pretty much the same situation with Elizabeth Gillies, who like Eva, has become known for mixing her dark, witchy vibe with a heaping helping of showy sex appeal. Two dark beauties with a penchant for showing off their goods. Which one casts the stronger spell on you?
This is kind of a tough one for me. It wasn't too long ago when I would have given Eva all the votes in the world here. She was so beautiful in movies like CASINO ROYALE I could hardly stand it. However, in the decade since then, Eva has angled toward scarier and scarier visages in many of her roles. If you saw her in much of the recently cancelled Penny Dreadful series, you'll know what I'm talking about. Even the 300 and SIN CITY sequels saw Eva appear more harsh than heavenly. I don't expect her to be gorgeous in every role, but a more balanced ratio there might be nice.
On the other hand you got Liz here, who has only gotten better since leaving her child actor beginnings behind and embarking on her fully realized, grown up career. Like Eva, Elizabeth has those gypsy eyes which cast a spell on you with every sultry stare down she delivers. Those, combined with the intoxicating blend of dark hair and porcelain skin, make Elizabeth a tough one to ignore here.
One could argue Eva deserves the win on this one for all her many nude scenes, some of which have delved into the pornographic. That's a good reason to give her the hotness win, I'll grant you. However, looking strictly at the goodness of Eva's body, I can't honestly say she's got something monumentally superior to Elizabeth going on. It's more like knowing I'd find myself with an agonizing choice, had I the impossible good fortune to choose between them for real.
I'm waiting with baited breath for Elizabeth to get out of them clothes. She's come so very, very close to it in recent years. But she's young yet and, at this point, without the kind of role sufficiently juicy enough to make getting naked a viable option for her. I do feel like it's only a matter of time before this happens. Girl has already shown herself to be anything but the shy type. When the opportunity comes for her to finally break out her bountiful T&A in full, I don't think she'll hesitate.
One of the things I did in preparation for this Face Off was watch a montage of Eva's extremely graphic moments from the movie THE DREAMERS - a movie I highly recommend to any Eva fan. This role has become legend for her, but a somewhat lesser known trivia tidbit is the fact that it was Eva's very first movie. Normally first gigs are bit parts or glorified background scenery. Not Eva. She started out doing the art house equivalent of softcore porn and then proceeded up the fame ladder from there. This says a lot about her hotness potential, of which these various acting roles have probably only scratched the surface.
Speaking of starting out in hotness. Elizabeth's role as the rebellious daughter of a washed up rocker in Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, frequently gives her the chance to show off her sexy side in diverse ways. Too bad it's on basic cable, which doesn't afford Liz the same kind of unabashed sexy goodness Eva enjoyed with her big break. Therein lies the problem for Elizabeth here. Eva's many fine hottie moments would overwhelm most competitors. Which means Liz has got a lot of catching up to do. I sure hope she does.
50 years of Bond movies and Bond girls, yet Eva is still my favorite of them all. There's never been another like her in that entire franchise, nor has there been another quite the same as Eva in the whole history of Hollywood. She's good at playing characters who exude a dangerous potency, be it sex, or evil, or whatever. This innate quality has probably limited her in the past. Which is why you've never seen Eva play the innocent angel face. Dark beauties never get those roles. This is something both Eva and Elizabeth know a thing or two about.
Starting out seems to be the theme of Elizabeth's career up to now. If you knew of her at all up until recently, it was probably for Victoria Justice's now defunct show Victorious. It was a show that never quite did Elizabeth justice, forgive the pun. Now that her days of adolescent folly are done, Liz is free to spread her wings. She has yet to fly as high as some of her former cast members from Vicky's demised vehicle, but hopefully it's only a matter of time before she does.
