It was Kat Dennings over Christina Hendricks by a 22 to 13 vote in last week's Face Off. Can't argue with you. I gave Christina my vote because of boobs, but then again I can see how boobs would be a reason to vote for Kat. Doesn't matter. The boobs win either way.
This time around we're looking at two hotties who don't show up on our radar much anymore. It's not that either Summer Glau or Alison Lohman are forgotten. Their movies and shows still play on TV and they occasionally show up in the occasional new thing. They simply aren't as wide spread as they used to be. Hey, fame can be a harsh mistress. For some, the pressures that come with celebrity are just too great to bear. Some shine bright for awhile and burnout quickly. Others just seem to come and go. For whatever reason, we don't see or hear as much from Alison and Summer as we used to. That's a shame, but even if they aren't as widespread as they used to be, they're still hot and worthy of remembering. But which one do you remember more fondly? Let's see.
Alison has always had the cutest face. I love those big, brown eyes and full cheeks. She's got one of the sweetest smiles I've ever seen. She's also one of the few women I actually prefer as a blonde. Another thing I find intriguing about her is that she resembles a lot of different hotties. I see some Mary Elizabeth Winstead in there, some Anna Paquin, a hint of Gemma Arterton and a few others that I can't think of right now. Can't in good conscience give a no vote to someone who combines all the best parts of such fine ladies.
Summer has a different kind of beauty happening, but one no less impressive and Alison's. There's something exotic about her, similar to what you might see in someone of mixed heritage, though she's apparently entirely European. I always assumed there was some Asian or Native American in there too, but I guess not. Summer also has the kind of beauty that lasts. She looks exactly same as she did 10 years ago when she broke big on Firefly. I reckon she'll probably look the same 20 years from now too. Even she's 80, she's still going to look amazing. That's natural beauty at its finest.
There's nothing particularly wrong with Alison's body. She loses here due to that relatively common situation where her competition is just a bit stronger in this category. On her own, Alison's body is plenty hot enough for anyone and I do love the ladies with the smaller frames. I'm kind of a tall guy and we tall guys often have a weird propensity for shorter women. I don't know why that is, but I'm not going to argue with it.
I've had a love affair with Summer's body pretty much from the first time I saw her. No coincidence that this first time introduction was when Summer's Firefly character, River Tam, was being pulled from a cryo chamber stark naked. Fantastic way to meet someone, don't you think? Things just got better from there. Summer's a trained ballerina, which means she's very tight and slim. If you've seen her do the ballerina thing, you know she's also very flexible. Tight and flexible. That's an unbeatable combination.
Everything you need to know about Alison's hotness is right here in this very much NSFW scene from the film WHERE THE TRUTH LIES. That's only one of the finest mainstream movie sex scenes of the last decade or so. Tough to compete with hotness like that.
Summer is beautiful and built, but her roles and public profile aren't strong on sexuality. She tends to play very emotionally stunted characters with an innate awkwardness and socially muted nature. As a real person she's more normal but still relatively conservative, preferring not to showing herself off. Summer is very good at being beautiful by nature, but being a sex symbol is obviously not where she's at.
It seems Alison has embarked on a prolonged break from the acting biz. The last time anyone has seen her on screen was DRAG ME TO HELL 4 years ago. Not sure why that is, although marrying action movie director Mark Neveldine and having kids with him is the most likely reason. She's a fine actress who has stood out in most of the films she's done. I don't know if she has any plans to return to acting, but I sure hope she does. She's far too talented to just fade away.
Summer's fortunes have been mixed at best. She's done a lot of high profile shows that various networks have had a lot riding on - shows like Firefly or Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles or Dollhouse or Alphas. Each one of those shows has crashed and burned in a widely publicized way. Maybe that consistent failure rate has tainted her rep amidst the TV executive ranks. Whatever has happened, the apparent result is a handful of small, one time roles here and there and a severely reduced public profile. That's a terrible shame. Sure would be nice if someone figures out a way to end her TV losing streak and gets her back on top again. I miss seeing Summer around.
They say absence makes the heart grow fonder. That's certainly true for me. Whenever I catch one of these two on the tube, it only makes me long for them more. Being the fanboy that I am, it's no surprise that Summer should win here, but I'd be giddy with excitement to see either of these ladies make a comeback. Let's hope that happens soon.
