Hillary Swank is an actress I've allowed to fall off my radar. Don't get me wrong, she is superb at her craft and can truly disappear in whatever role she takes on. However, that is also the reason I've almost purposely removed her from my memory. Her portrayal of a woman pretending to be a man in BOYS DON'T CRY, as well as a tomboy boxer in MILLION DOLLAR BABY have forever shaped how I view her. Her characters were almost to convincing in my eyes and it's hard for me to separate her from her Oscar winning roles. Those images of an awkward grumbling Hilary just dance in my head and refuse me to be turned on by her as a woman. I guess in the end, it's more a compliment to her acting ability rather than a knock at her femininity. She does look lovely in these photos though (but my brain makes me feel guilty for even saying that).
Hilary is shown here attending the premiere for her new film CONVICTION. The buzz is she's a front runner for the Oscar once again, so it looks like we may have another Meryl Streep on our hands. Was Meryl Streep ever desired as a sex symbol either? Maybe Hilary is in good company then.
