With the big debut of DRAG ME TO HELL
getting released sooner than they should have had ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE out in some capacity, we get a chance to see if Sam Raimi can return to horror after horrifying us with SpiderEmo. I have high hopes, even if Mr. Mac is co-starring in it. Hell, he was actually the only funny thing in ZACK & MIRI, but that's a whole other column.
I totally dig on Lohman's Hippie Chick look. She's got that innocent face which seems to scream as if it belonged back in the 1960's, running around in San Francisco, living off the profits of selling love beads. But it's a clean hippie look and not the dirty, arm pit hair, greasy look that too many actresses fall into between projects. It's as if she's Hollywood Hippie. Which is hot in my book.
Then there's this whole angle on Lohman where she has the capacity to act. Captured WHILE OLEANDER and MATCHSTICK MEN, she instantly grabbed my attention. I didn't fancy her to look any more special than your typical blonde with a soft voice and an average body, but the minute she speaks, she commands the screen. I would liken her to a young Michelle Pfeiffer, which is probably why she played her daughter in a movie.
Being in that company, as well as that of Jessica Lange, has given Lohman a clout in Hollywood which seems more aged than she has earned. She's still a young player cutting her teeth on projects but there's something about her which gives me this deep feeling like she's been around for far longer. I find her talent intriguing, her face the kind you stop and linger on and her body worthy of at least a double take. Hell, she got Sam Raimi's attention. And I for certain know that she's got mine.
What do you think of Alison Lohman? Hot, pretty, meh, not... what?
