After being surprised to see positive reviews for I'M STILL HERE, that documentary where the younger Affleck follows his brother-in-law, the younger Phoenix, as he claims that he's retired from acting and wants to pursue a rap music career, I thought about the release that I'm more interested in watching, EASY A. It reminded me how I cared more that she made the Twat claim that she was retiring as well. As we all know now, she's "unretired." But are you tired of her?
Amanda Bynes
Bynes hails from Thousand Oaks, California, not far from where I grew up myself, so I might have had a soft spot for her from the very beginning of her career. Starting out as a sketch player on the Nickelodeon show "All That," I was slightly embarrassed to admit that I watched that show even though I was out of its target age demographic. But she was so cute and charming as a kid (so much so she earned her own spin-off, "The Amanda Show") that I didn't feel too badly for too long.
Bynes grew up quickly and ended up as a second banana at first, in movies like BIG FAT LIAR and ROBOTS before getting some mild exposure as a leading comedic actress like WHAT A GIRL WANTS and SHE'S THE MAN. She also continued her reign on television in a moderately successful WB show, "What I Like About You." I might not have caught that show but when I put the Channing Tatum factor out of my head, I found myself really liking her as she was growing up on film.
Now mainly known as being a girl about town, having her picture taken for red carpet events showcasing her long legs and flowing blonde locks, Bynes might not have had a strong enough reason in most people's eyes to "retire" but she's been kicked around the Hollywood kitchen in my mind. She could be great if she got the right material and seeing as how she's grown up but still only 24 years old, I think she's got some great future potential. For acting, that is. As for her status as a hottie, she's a brilliant one.
