At times I have to post a "Duh" hottie for this column because, let's face it - a large number of tasty ladies are not getting the publicity that they deserve, last week's featured actress, Natalie Martinez, included. If the column gives me a chance to focus on those women, I'm going to take it. Feel free to hate on me about that, I don't mind. Now let's talk about one of the stars of HELLION this week, shall we?
Back in the '90's I remember thinking that this weird, skinny, bug eyed chick with the obnoxious voice was getting far too much attention from the hottest men of the decade, Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp most notably (granted, Lewis dated Pitt and only starred in WHAT'S EATING GILBERT GRAPE? with Depp but that was enough to make me jealous/weary girl at her). I didn't get the appeal. I didn't understand why it seemed as if she was being cast in everything that looked any good.
But Juliette aged. She developed a drug addiction that kicked her out of the A-list circle. She had to start paying dues in the indie film market. Her high-pitched drone softened. She grew weathered in more ways than one and that took her from being that actress who looked "realistic" for movies to the actress who actually was realistic. Other than the super human fit body and the bank account, of course.
If you had asked me 10 years ago if I thought Juliette Lewis was hot, I would have said no. Or perhaps, "In certain circumstances." But dammit if she doesn't just keep getting better with age. Between her music career and her constantly interesting acting role choices (including many times being the best thing in a movie, including crap like CATCH AND RELEASE and THE SWITCH, most recently) as well as her overt personality that conveys a woman who knows more about life than the average pretty face on the big screen, I am kinda in lesbians with her now.
What do you think of Juliette Lewis?
