Talk about a bizarre grab-bag of new releases hitting the box office this weekend. Myself, I'm hoping to get some time and not have to search too hard to find a screening of SUPER, because I'm forever addicted to Captain Mal and those tight pants, even when he's not wearing them. But Fillion isn't the only TV star who is getting some big screen action lately. You might find cringing through HOP a little less painful if you're on the "hot" side of this week's debate.
Kaley Cuoco
If you told me that the girl who played Kelly Lynch's daughter in VIRTUOSITY was going to be posing in her underwear for Maxim magazine in the future, I would have asked you what the hell Maxim magazine was. You see, it's hard to predict what the future will be, just as it was hard to know that the dude baring his substantial ass was going to end up an Oscar winner. Kaley has been kicking around small roles since she was a little kid, carving out professional work as a voice-over actress for many cartoons and showing up in everything from "Tru Calling" to "Charmed" to "8 Simple Rules," where she first began to gather steam as a sexpot teen.
The biggest break for Cuoco came in 2007 when she was hired to play Penny, the hot chick from Nebraska who harbors aspirations of becoming an actress while working at The Cheesecake Factory and tormenting next-door-neighbor Leonard by being an equation that he can't solve with his intelligence. She could have been easily overpowered by the mostly male cast full of large personalities, but she proved herself to be as strong in looks as she was in comedic chick talent and has held her own for the last 4 seasons.
It's fairly easily to pinpoint my opinion of Kaley - she might be only a blonde and only an actress but she has an admirable work ethic coupled with talent that far surpasses looks in a field where the superficial is more important. Sure, she looks great in a bikini. But I might also be the first person to admit that while I find her sexy as hell, her face IS a little wonky. I don't think this takes away from her hotness, it just makes it all that much more impressive that she's not perfect, making her that much more perfect.
