I like a woman who can play with the big boys and I'm not talking about weight. This week's Hot or Not selection is co-starring in HYDE PARK ON HUDSON with the infamously talented goon, Bill Murray. Doing a period piece with a man who has a reputation of hard-to-track-down-edness is trying in and of itself. Making it a biopic about a specific period of time in FDR's life calls for a big hitter of her own right.
Seeing as how the studios tried to sell Linney as another icy blonde in mid-1990's movies like CONGO and PRIMAL FEAR, really didn't do her much justice in the hottie department. This was a woman who was supposed to inspire fear, a sense of manliness in a skirt. She wasn't seen as being a festival for the eyes, a victim of the strange tides that were turning regarding femininity and power during that period of American history. (I blame Hilary Clinton.) It took until THE TRUMAN SHOW for us to start seeing the cracks in that manufactured facade and the real, lively and sexy, Linney seep out.
She's still the steady character in most movies, the mom, the sister, the hard-working stiff who can't catch a break. In YOU CAN COUNT ON ME, I saw in Laura the thing that I see in myself - a woman who doesn't try to put labels on herself and just works her ass off to get shit done. Perhaps it's an egotistical thing to think that sort of attribute is hot, but I do. Faulty personalities with iron-strong work ethics are hot, female or male perspective.
I think I'm also drawn to Linney because she's an Aquarius like myself. That and the fact that she's going to be turning 49-years old soon and still looks as crisp and fresh as she did when she was younger. When you think about the fact that the majority of her career in film and movies came when she was in her 30's and that she's finally coming into more recognition and appreciation just recently (she's been blowing everyone away on "The Big C") that's got to count for something. I think that she's hot. I think that her being hotter in what are considered the declining years of age for a woman in her profession is even hotter.
What do you think of Laura Linney?
