It's the calm before the storm at the box office this weekend. For those flicks hoping to generate enough heat from movie-goers who are getting bored with the spring releases, you get "early" summer-style action flicks like FAST FIVE and THOR. For those movies knowing they're going to have a good lead-in audience waiting for them to kick off the summer box office race near Memorial Weekend, you have the new PIRATES, PANDA and HANGOVER installments. To allow time to let the pocketbooks of the masses recover between those weeks, you have stuff like PRIEST. But is its star a stand-in for when you can get something better? Or is she your preferred hot gooey center?
Maggie Q
I like that while Maggie takes on roles written stereotypically for a hot Asian broad, there's something about her which screams she's anything but another stereotype. Half Vietnamese, half Polish-Irish American, she has a look to her that straddles conventions.
She's been a ping pong master, a master of martial arts and a Tom Cruise co-star who's lived to see another day. Now she's a warrior princess looking to take down some non-sparkly vampires. Career looks good. (No, I haven't watch "Nikita." Yes, I'm sure there will be plenty of you who can tell me how good/bad it is.)
Maggie Q is as petite as most Asian chicks look (she's an average 5'6" in height) with a body that can rival most high school aged boys but an unstoppably gorgeous face. Huge eyes formed into soft almond shapes, lush lips on a slightly too-wide mouth. Her features are absolutely striking. However, while I find her beautiful and in a certain sense quite a hottie, there's something about her which doesn't radiant sexy or sensual to me. She's like that tough best friend you have who is hot in her own way, but not the bombshell of the bunch.
