Merry Day Before Xmas to all! It's hard to believe that the birthday and holiday season is almost over (until next year begins, of course), just as much as it's hard for me to believe that this week's Hot or Not selection turned 50-years old just this past November 20th. Then again, she IS playing a superhero of sorts on television right now, so I suppose anything is possible.
If you asked me, I would say that I don't think Ming-Na Wen has aged much over the course of her 28 years in the acting business. Hell, it's even harder to fathom that she only hit her stride during the 1990's when she was well into her 30's, an age that normally stumps actresses in Hollywood. Sure, she certainly had a slightly younger look when she was Chun-Li in 1994's STREET FIGHTER, but still, she doesn't look all that much older now, nearly 20 years later.
Because I'm a girl and because I have a mother, I think I most identified with Ming-Na when she was in the lead role for THE JOY LUCK CLUB, a movie based on a book that was awesome (and one of those modern classic books that I studied in school and was excited to see make it to the big screen because I went to a high school with a sizable Asian population). I loved that she was so embraced in film and television throughout that decade, making her one of the most successful Asian women working at the time.
Ming-Na has been steadily working over the years even if her projects haven't been as high profile. Now, with her role as Melinda May on the ABC series "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," she's gaining a new fan and younger set of fans who appreciate her for her earthy solidity and remarkable hotness. I have to say that I find Ming-Na just as hot (if not hotter) now as she was in the past.
What do you think of Ming-Na Wen?
