As people begin to debate whether or not Emma Stone looks better as a red head or a blonde, I have myself a chuckle understanding that Apatow recommended to Stone that she dye her hair the ginger color in order to sell herself better and that the golden dark color of blonde is her natural hue. In fact, most of the actresses that are cherished recently for their fiery hair get that color from a bottle. So I guess it's interesting timing that one of the original true red heads is coming back for another movie during her favorite season - the awards one.
OG Nicole Kidman is my homegirl. I'm talking the frizzy mop of tangled red curls, running from danger on a boat or kicking ass and taking names as an ornery Irish rich bitch. I could have given two shits if she never got anywhere close to a golden statue, I happened to like her as an entertaining force. She was tougher then, better at being kinda c*nty. And she kept Tom Cruise's weird shit under the radar, making him the better star at the time as well.
Some time in the middle of her career, after she got out of her marriage and started claiming roles that were more dramatically challenging, Kidman turned into a fashion icon that most men and women found immensely more attractive than in her rougher earlier days. I was wary of this version of her. She didn't feel as if she could be trusted. It might have had more to do with my fear of liking anything that the bandwagon jumped on to, but post divorce, I just couldn't get into Kidman like I'd previously been able to.
Then she became, quite frankly, rather alien looking. There are people who still try to tie her name to Cruise now that he's gone public with his Senior Wackadoo routine, but to me, she did all of this oddball facial changing when she was far from being under his thumb any longer. Her face looks frozen. Her forehead grew at an unnatural rate. And the breathless line delivery that she began pulling for so many movies became f*cking tiresome. I once found Nicole Kidman very hot. I just think now that it was a phase.
What do you think of Nicole Kidman?
