Unique beauty is a great thing. At least, when it comes to crafting an acting style that someone with extraordinary beauty doesn't get the opportunity to cultivate because everyone is taking their time, money and effort to cash in on the flawless face. As much as I am not immune to a pristine visage, I also find myself deeply obsessed with some of the more profound beauties in acting. I happen to like this week's selection a lot.
It might be odd that I'm claiming to have such a deep affection for Rapace, considering that I haven't watched her as any other character other than Lisbeth Salander. It might help that the popularity of the original set of movies, crafted in Swedish as the books were created, has begun a demand for the 31-year old actress in more mainstream Hollywood films. Still, as much as I think of Lisbeth as being one of those impossible literary characters to bring to life on screen with 100% accuracy, Rapace gets pretty damn close.
I started reading up on her as soon as I found out that the success of her triple take in the GIRL movies landed her roles in the SHERLOCK HOLMES sequel as well as roles in the ALIEN prequel. Her mother was a popular Swedish actress and her father a Spanish Flamenco singer. More interesting to me was that when she married fellow actor Ola Rapace, she was Noomi Noren and he was Ola Norell. The pair simply decided to ditch both of their previous last names and adopt Rapace as their acting married name. (It translates into "bird of prey" from French.)
Rapace has described herself as being more girlie than Lisbeth Salander and figured that she wasn't going to fit into the role well. Most audience members have disagreed, turning the set of foreign films into box office winners in the states. With the release of THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNET'S NEST coming out in America this weekend and a slew of projects on the horizon, will Noomi be coveted for her acting talents and exotic look?
What do you think of Noomi Repace?
