This week's Hot or Not selection has made a career out of playing someone else's sister, from this week's new release, YOUR SISTER'S SISTER to other movies and television shows where she stole scenes from her otherwise more attention-grabbing siblings. That's pretty impressive considering who her industry family has consisted of. Therefore, let's rank her on our own scale of hotness.
I love how the last couple of actresses that I've featured in this column didn't get a foothold on small roles until they were well into their late 20's, around the time that agents start trying to discourage wannabes. I'm glad that she didn't quit, as Rosemarie DeWitt stuck in my head when she appeared as the title character but second banana sister to Anne Hathaway in the poignant drama RACHEL GETTING MARRIED.
While her first attempt at a regular television series didn't get far off the ground (Fox's "Standoff" only aired a few of its 18 episodes), she did score a partner and future husband in Ron "OFFICE SPACE" Livingston from its production. It was later in 2007 when DeWitt got more notice as Midge on "Mad Men," and really hit it out of the ballpark as the anxiety ridden flaky sister of multiple personality disordered Tara in the great UNITED STATES OF TARA. Gotta love a woman who can see the f*ckability in Patton Oswalt, even if it is just a fictional character.
Between YOUR SISTER'S SISTER, THE ODD LIFE OF TIMOTHY GREEN and THE WATCh on her movie plate this 2012, DeWitt is reteaming with YSS's for TOUCHY FEELY, a film that will cast her with her hubby and indie darling Ellen Page, not to mention getting to work with the legendary Gus Van Sant in PROMISED LAND. Rosemarie is talented, yes. She's not classically beautiful but she is so full of life, beautiful chaos and talent that I can't not watch her whenever she's onscreen. I vote hot. Like, very.
What do you think of Rosemarie DeWitt?
