By now, if there are any of you who are paying attention to the words that hover in between the pictures that I post, you'll have discovered that I'm not always a fan of the more predictable beauties in the entertainment business. I prefer to believe that an actress by definition is a woman who can act and that her looks will be supplemented by the level of acting capacity that she has. So it's fun for me to discuss women like this week's Hot or Not selection.
I'll probably date myself by telling you that I remember Polley as a child actress in the series "Avonlea" and that she stood out to me then. It probably had more to do with the fact that my mom, the English teacher, was really into the "Anne of Green Gables" set of books and that I was familiarized with the characters enough to want to watch the show, but I found her charming in a way that most child actors in Hollywood just don't play out.
So it was peaches and cream when she made the movie GO, partly because it was great to see her do something more adult and partly because that was the introduction of Todd Gaines, which turned me on to my love affair with Timothy Olyphant, but that's another story for a different day. Polly has mostly stuck to lower budget movies where she could have a bigger acting impact, including the impressive MY LIFE WITHOUT ME and NO SUCH THING, where she got to show of a little of her sexier side.
It's been interesting to watch her evolve into a very convincing dramatic actress in thriller slash horror slash zombie slash whatever you want to call them movies, perhaps kicked off best by her more high profile turn in the 2004 DAWN OF THE DEAD remake and continuing with this week's splashy looking SPLICE.
I will admit that I'm much more intrigued about watching that in the theater rather than waiting for a DVD release simply because she's in it. And this is without even mentioning her strong directorial turn for AWAY FROM HER.
So, Sarah Polley.... Hot or Not?
