If you're wondering if DIVERGENT is going to be like THE HUNGER GAMES, I can safely alert you to the sad fact that if the movies follow the books, it's going to be closer to TWILIGHT and all of that sappy, drippy, melodramatic romantic crap that people think teen girls go for. Sure, it tries to be tough and at times does a decent walking of the walk. Its star could easily be just as heavily discussed, so why don't we do that instead?
When fans of the SPIDER-MAN franchise went apeshit over Woodley getting cast as Mary Jane, I couldn't understand the hullabaloo. At the time, she was still decorated for her awesome portrayal of George Clooney's daughter in THE DESCENDANTS. But that was me figuring that people would want better acted characters than just set decorations. Not that I understand the complaints about Shailene's looks either.
If you're going to focus on where she got her start, on that terrifyingly horrible "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," I can see how you might hate her for the show, the character and everything else that gained a paycheck from that show. Facts being facts, when Shailene put on her bikini (or when she's posed for any of the multitude of magazine photoshoots that she's done), the body on this Southern California girl should have silenced the majority of any naysayers.
Shailene does not have a perfect face. She hasn't had her nose chopped up by a plastic surgeon and she isn't swimming in oversized dental veneers. She has a nice if not overtly exceptional body and those eyes of hers bore into you like few others can. After seeing her as Hazel Grace in an early screening of THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, I'm even more convinced that her acting talent might even get me to enjoy (or just plain tolerate) DIVERGENT. I think Shailene Woodley is rather pretty, even if she'll never be Hollywood Hot.
What do you think of Shailene Woodley?
