I got a thing for Mary Elizabeth Winstead

4 years agoby: Droz

Here's Mary Elizabeth Winstead out at the premiere of her remake/prequel of the John Carpenter horror classic THE THING, looking lovely in her flowing red gown. I do love Mary with a passion, but I'm not at all sold on a how this new verison is going to turn out. Having watched the original again just last night, I can't imagine anything they could do with this that is going to compare. Carpenter said everything that needed to be said with the original and did it all perfectly without any CGI overstuffing, which you know this new one is going to be packed with. Those big, disgusting puppets from the original are the chief reason for why that movie is the classic that it is. That movie literally cornered the market with slimy, bloody creatures doing nasty shit. Anything this new movie does in that vein will most likely be an imitation. Though, I will acknowledge that Mary and her gorgeous self have got to be an improvement over Kurt Russel's bushy beard.

A shame that she's taken. Beautiful woman.

The thumbs down has nothing to do with Miss Winstead.

I know I'm gonna receive a bunch of thumbs down for this, but I don't really care. The John Carpenter version is not the "original." The original version came out in 1951. Carpenter's was the first remake of it. And both were based off the short story "Who Goes There," by John Campbell, which was first published in the late 1930's in "Astounding Science Fiction."

That said, Mary Elizabeth IS pretty cute...

Technically, I guess you're right. It is a version of THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD. However, Carpenter and company took there version in a totally different direction, so really it's only loosely based on that film. Hardly enough to even call it a remake, I think.
