On occasion, I stop to eavesdrop on the inane conversations that my co-workers are having about whatever pop culture nonsense their soccer mom mentalities are thirsting after. I get to groan and retch as I hear them gush over storylines from "Grey's Anatomy" or "Desperate Housewives" while I am frantically seeking some other normal human being to make stupid conversation with that I eagerly look forward to getting away from when my day's sentence is up. One of the things that surprised me about their chatter awhile back is how disappointed they were with Eva Mendes in the remake of THE WOMEN. While Mendes took some time for me to warm up to and even though I thought that movie was a worse experience than a trip to the dentist for a root canal (since the dentist will at least hook you up with some narcotics afterward), that's one of those movies where I thought she shined. Especially far and away above the rest of the people in the movie. Seeing her pose for this photocall in Madrid reminds me that I haven't seen THE OTHER GUYS yet (sue me, I haven't been motivated to see much of anything in '10) and causes wonder over how long it will take before the DVD is out.
