The Top Ten Sexiest Superheroines

With THOR: THE DARK WORLD kicking some major box office ass over this past weekend, it seems only right to revisit some of the ladies who are just as super in their own powers. Because behind every great man is a man child who wrote his backstory, drew his image and gave that hero a woman whom the artist could never get in real life. May I have my shoe back now?

10 - Hayden Panettiere (Claire Bennet, The Cheerleader)

While Sylar was the villain everyone loved to love, it was The Cheerleader who was ultimately the best hero of "Heroes," all thanks to the cute perkiness of Hayden Panettiere. In the beginning, back when the show was still on the air, I might have loved Claire Bennet but I was not a fan of Panties herself, seeing how she acted too much the diva during her many Comic Con appearances. I've since changed my mind about Hayden but not about Claire - she's still the character I would most love to... be.

9 - Tanya Roberts (Sheena)

Long before she was Hot Donna's mom on "That 70's Show," Tanya Roberts was busy being courted by James Bond, averting her eyes from Marc Singer's loincloth and of course talking to animals as Sheena, Queen of the Jungle. I was a little kid when I first watched the movie, not fully understanding why I always watched it with my dad and why my mom would huff out of the room during its viewing. I get it now, I most definitely get it now.

8 - Ashley Scott (Huntress)

I used to think that I was one of the only people who watched the TV show, "Birds of Prey," back when the CW was the WB. I've learned differently since then. After creating the superhero show "Smallville" which stayed on the air for a lifetime and a half, the network tried to bring a similar show to as great of levels only to remove it from rotation after only one season. I decided to watch the show because I have always had a thing for Dina Meyer, who was cast as Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl, on the show. But it was the tastiness of Ashley Scott as the Huntress, aka Helena Kyle, the daughter of Catwoman and Batman who really made the show more palatable. Thankfully the fledgling program has remained in minor "Firefly" esteem as one of those shows that has had its one season of DVDs replayed incessantly.

7 - Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique)

I know, most of you have voiced the fact that you prefer Rebecca Romijn's Mystique over Jennifer Lawrence's, but I have to disagree. While it was awesome to see Becca in that blue body paint because she was the lingerie/bikini model to rival all within her heyday, it was Lawrence who really brought the underlying heart and soul to the misunderstood mutant. Without knowing where she came from, it's hard to process her being so villainous in the future. Plus, you know, JLaw has just as banging of a body, if you gotta get real about it.

6 - Carla Gugino (Silk Spectre)

I read The Watchmen and didn't like it. I should say that I did follow it, I did understand what was going on (which I think might have been the big problem for those who watched the movie and didn't understand or those who avoided the film because it looked too confusing) but I still didn't like it. While I applauded Snyder for making the film adaptation pretty damn close to the book, I still didn't like the movie. However, how could I not like Carla Gugino as the original Silk Spectre? She was in period hair and semi-period costume. I think all of us felt like that cop in the still when we watched her.

5 - Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow)

I didn't think that I was going to like Scarlett Johansson in the second IRON MAN movie, especially since prior to the movie getting released there was the info that she would be playing Black Widow, aka Natasha Romanoff. The thing that was so impressive about Romanoff as a comic character is that she was pretty brutal and ScarJo was just brutally pretty at the time she was cast. But the moment that she walked into that building in that tight suit with Happy trailing her valiantly, I was won over. THE AVENGERS just furthered that resolve and I can imagine that CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER will turn Johansson's Black Widow into a legendary icon.

4 - Angelina Jolie (Lara Croft, Tomb Raider)

I might not know much about Lara Croft, Tomb Raider as one who plays video games with a vengeance does but I know that whatever it was about the character that made her so super was what caused me to watch both of the pretty dumb movies about her - because Angelina Jolie in her prime was cast as the gun-toting, tit-bearing babe. Jolie might not be the goddess with muscle that she was back then, but thankfully it was captured on film to be remembered much longer than the game ever will be.

3 - Jaimie Alexander (Sif)

I know that I might be pushing the "superheroine" definition by including Jaimie Alexander on the list, let alone that I have her in my top 3. Sif is just that special, though. While the first THOR movie didn't debut to the huge numbers that its sequel just did, there was a bright light attached to Alexander as she kicked ass and didn't worry about needing to be pretty - all the while being breathtakingly gorgeous. While we may have seen hers, the appeal to the character is that she's no pussy.

2 - Anne Hathaway (Catwoman)

I wish I could say that I had utter and complete faith that Anne Hathaway was going to be a phenomenal Catwoman. The reality is that I fell into the crowd who all believed that it was not one of the worst casting decisions but definitely not one that was going to take flight. Seeing as how a lot of people in my generation preferred Michelle Pfeiffer in the Tim Burton version, it was going to be hard for any actress to step into the tight leather suit. Hathaway surprised everyone, however, by being more than proficient in her Selena Kyle. In fact, she's now in the pantheon of top superheroines of all time, even in the hearts of those who initially doubted her.

1 - Lynda Carter (Wonder Woman)

There's a pretty good reason why they haven't been able to get a decent Wonder Woman project off the ground since 1979, the year that the Lynda Carter TV show went off the air after only 3 seasons and that's because of the unrivaled gorgeousness of Carter herself. They've tried, oh how they've tried. The Adrianne Palicki version crashed and burned without a single network choosing to pick up even the pilot for airing. There haven't been women like Carter since... well, since Carter. And I (and apparently the majority of the pop culture nuts out there) kinda like it that way.

Sorry, I get the Wonder Woman/Linda Carter, but Scarlett Johanson is way hotter than the other 3. Anne Hathaway at number 2, maybe Michelle Pfifer.

Solid list. I would have added Jennifer Garner, Jessica Alba and the legendary Helen Slater.

All hail the queen. Total hottie! And please let her play Hippolyta when the Wonder Woman TV show or film finally, finally gets off the ground.

I'd like to nominate Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, Serinda Swan as Zatanna from Smallville, and if she counts as a superheroine, Lynn Collins as Dejah Thoris in John Carter. Antje Traue was also very hot in Man of Steel, kicking all that ass.

Not sure I'd count her as a superheroine, but oh my God, yes please. Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft was, to me, the equivalent of Carrie Fisher in Leia's Metal Bikini to many a guy who came of age in the 80s.

She makes for a great Black Widow, though I've always wondered what it would be like had Emily Blunt taken the role. Iron Man 2 had a scheduling conflict with, uh, Gulliver's Travels. Poor Emily Blunt.

Romijn may have been sexier but J-Law is certainly the better actor. I'm a little concerned as to how Mystique will look in Days of Future Past, because they've scrapped the painstaking full-body makeup application for a bodysuit supplemented by prosthetics. We shall see.

The TV show strayed too far from established canon and was a mite too silly for me to actually enjoy, but Ashley Scott is hot. Always wondered what she'd look like in a more faithful version of the Huntress's costume. Dina Meyer was lovely in this show, too. And they had Sung-Hi Lee as Lady Shiva...
