It might be so that the singer can get closer to the spankings she desires. In the accompanying interview with the music mag, Rihanna explained her fondness towards being submissive. I didn't know of the dude until he beat the shit out of her. From my perspective, you could see it as his way of getting more main-stream recognition. For some of those crazy assholes, even bad publicity is good publicity.
