Ellen Page might not have won the Oscar for JUNO, but she's right on track to ending up with a gold statuette eventually. If Oscar politics remain true to tradition, getting gaudy in period piece attire and taking on a classic piece of literature is a sure-fire way to get the voters' attention.
It has been tentatively announced that Page is set to play Jane Eyre in a new version of the Charlotte Bronte novel. Little else is known about the casting, directing or writing credits thus far, but if the early announcement of Page's involvement is any indication, my guess is they're capitalizing while the the proverbial iron is still hot.
Page is currently filming the thriller PEACOCK with Susan Sarandon and Cillian Murphy in Des Moines, Iowa. The film is set for a 2009 release. She's also in pre-production for a movie entitled WHIP IT!, also set for a 2009 release. I don't know which to be excited about more, PEACOCK because of Murphy (those two ought to do damage together) or WHIP IT! because it will follow Page's indie-rock loving character as she joins a roller derby team. Either way, I'll more than likely be dropping my cash on both.
