I can't say I'm totally surprised by this news as I consider Michelle Pfeiffer to be a formidable and conscious actress in terms of which films she will star in or what roles she's willing to take on. During the weekend, Michelle took part in an exclusive interview with DailyIndia.com where she revealed that she turned down the lead role of Catherine Tramell in the erotic-thriller "Basic Instinct" as she felt the sex and nude scenes were "too bold" for her.
When asked about the reasoning behind her decision, she replied, "How did you know about Basic Instinct? I just couldn't do that one, because of the sexual parts, the nudity. My father was still alive. I'm kind of prudish."
I had no clue at all that Michelle was ever confronted to take on the lead role and I have to honestly say, I don't blame her for turning it down. It didn't exactly end well for Sharon Stone even though "Showgirls" was a career f#ck for Elizabeth Berkely (both movies directed by Paul Verhoeven). Let's hope that Michelle keeps it going and that she will always be remembered for the role she so brilliantly portrayed below.
