Holy hell. Let me tell you something I'm not ashamed of. I like Katy Perry. I like her a lot. The music can at times be a fun sort of catching, at others, gratingly repetitive. But the woman followed her heart, didn't allow a notorious bad boy to abuse her, insisting that he treat her with the respect her parents had told her she needed from a man, and admits that her marriage to Russell Brand failing is a huge disappointment to her. You'd know all this if you watch PART OF ME. You'd also know that it's a little ridiculous to have parents who allow their small little daughters to dress in the wacky but provocative style clothing that Perry dons on stage. There's a good side and then there's a bad side.
But when I consider Rihanna, Katy Perry's friend and similar pop music icon, I just want to smack the bitch. She got beaten by a man that she forgave less than 24 hours after he'd beaten her face to a bloody pulp. She was seen vacationing with him less than 2 months after the attack. She's defended him to his musical critics. And now she's recording a song with him because she claims that her fans have asked her to. In the interview with the current issue of Harper's Bazaar, Rihanna says, “Music is music and my fans have been asking me to record with him. I just felt like it was time. It was time.”
I understand forgiveness, I swear I really do. But going this far teaches our young girls what exactly? It teaches the grown adult idiots who like her what? Say what you want about Perry, she's at least sending out the message to girls and boys alike that love is worth being treated well. Love is worth putting in the time and effort. Love is not beating, forgiving and then profiting off the negativity. Sorry, Ri-Ri. You're being a dumbass here.
