Last weekend was a mixture of emotions for me. I had a bunch of girls over at my house, drinking and talking smack about the males of our species. So, good thing. Then I find out that Whitney Houston died. Bad thing. Then I think about how back in the mid-80's when I was a little girl, Whitney was a pop idol for young girls and how much more innocent and talented that iconic image of hers was and thought about some of the more popular singers of today, including Rihanna. That made me sad. Then I saw the tweets from the young female users on Twitter saying that they'd willingly take a beating from Chris Brown and that made me angry.
Then I watched "The Walking Dead" return for the second half of its second season and I forgot about all the other stuff. Now I'm looking at pictures of Rihanna at the Grammys (I didn't need to watch the show, I'll just guesstimate that Adele won a bunch of shit and there was a last minute video tribute done for Whitney) and I'm mad again. Mad that times still haven't changed enough for young black female singers to not have "whiten up" to be considered beautiful and mad that anyone would think that beating on this pretty young thing would be forgivable in any world.
