Well, suck me sideways, the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con is here already? Seems like it was just yesterday I was crying my eyeballs out whilst downing shots of whiskey to erase the pain of not being able to attend last year's Con. I guess it's time to head back to the liquor store. Sci-fi and fantasy conventions are a great way to go out and have fun, meet like-minded people and get the exclusives on comic/movie/gaming/television news in a safe environment (safety from extendable pencils not guaranteed). Is there some other important thing I've left out?
Oh, yes. It's also a popular event for those infatuated with wearing costumes, also known as "cosplay models" or "cos-players". All around downtown San Diego, the streets are swarmed with silly outfits, whether cheap or unreasonably pricey, as far as the eye can see. This would've been reported by the city as a major disturbance long ago, if it weren't for one thing: all the costume-clad hotties roaming about. If you've been to the Con, you're probably aware of the hefty amount of female dress-up advocates who like to spice up the sex appeal of their favorite fantastical character, whether or not that character was "sexy" to begin with.
Over the years, cosplay has become a growing phenomenon, and many hotties have taken it to such a level that they've even garnered themselves a fanbase. This is largely thanks to the conventions themselves, but perhaps even moreso, their Twitter/Facebook/Instagrsam accounts. Tara Babcock, Norma Marie Jean, Freddy Nova, Vegas PG, Bad Girl Amy, Christine Lee, Heather1337, Jessica Nigri, Bianca Beauchamp and Marie-Claude Bournonnais are just a handful of names of ladies who put their sewing machines to work and earned their place in the cosplay hall of fame. And since I can't seem to shut up about it, let's celebrate the ultimate geek week with a buffet of awesome social media pics, taken by the gals who've helped to define "nerdgasm". Who knows? Maybe you'll wind up bumping shoulders (or other things) with one of them at the Con. Happy scrolling!
