If you've ever taken the time to watch "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," you've probably cursed yourself for wasting time watching that show. After trying it out, I have to say that it's one of the most horrendously written and blindingly poorly acted shows in the entire history of TV. It's so laughably, breathtakingly bad that it's famously been shown on "The Soup" even though that E! program tends to stick to mocking talk & reality shows.
However, if there's anything that's positive that's come out of that Family Channel monstrosity, it's the fantastic Shailene Woodley, an actress who has vastly surpassed everything she started out doing in the acting industry, beginning with her Golden Globe nominated performance in THE DESCENDANTS and moving on through to more recent movies including THE SPECTACULAR NOW, where - if you've ever watched TSLOTAT - you can become completely floored at her delicate touch with tough material.
Now that Woodley is the casting choice of late for any other project the studios want to see excel, including 2014's releases DIVERGENT, THE FAULT IN OUR STARS and WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD (not to mention the fact that I wouldn't be shocked at all if the people behind THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 decided to throw in the scenes that Shailene filmed as Mary Jane that they have been saying were scrapped), here's to a young woman whose acting roots are shallow but whose future is deep.
