Antoinette Robertson is the sexy new star of The CW's "Hart of Dixie", which is going on its third season. In the show - which focuses on a New York doctor (Rachel Bilson) who finds herself working in the small town of Bluebell, Alabama - Robertson plays Lynly, the spoiled and troublemaking cousin of the small town’s mayor that comes to Bluebell to mend her broken heart.
In addition to her role on “Hart of Dixie,” Antoinette is known for her starring role in ABC’s “Zero Hour” alongside Anthony Edwards (“ER”). Antoinette was kind enough to take a few moments out of her busy day to chat with The Hottie Stop about the inspiration for her bad girl character, what us guys don't know about going to an all-girls school, and her favorite (and least favorite) things about being an actress.
So what can you tell me about your "Hart of Dixie" character. I hear she's bad news.
She's spoiled. A bit of a troublemaker. She came to Bluebell because of her parents and she gets into a bit of trouble while she's there.
Why is she causing so much trouble?
I think the fact that she's clueless in nature. She does exactly what's on her mind, and that can be offensive to some people and auses conflict. She's very demanding.
Are you anything like this character in real life?
(Laughs) No, definitely not. But it's very fun to play. I'm like, "This is how the other half lives."
Do you know anyone who is like this?
To be perfectly honest, I do. There is this one girl Roxanne that I knew in school - I went to an all girls school - and the minute they gave me this character, I thought about her. It's interesting, because this young lady in high school would do all these bad things and then act like she had no idea what she did. It was so infuriating. But then I figured, she's not doing this to be manipulative, she's just clueless. So I just drew from that.
In the long run, it's a good thing you knew this girl.
Oh definitely, but I didn't know at the time that I was going to use it. Turned out pretty well.
Tell me one thing that guys don't realize about going to an all girls school.
I think everyone assumes we're all boy-crazy. (Laughs) It was a really good experience for me. I think guys don't realize we're a lot less girly around each other. We're a lot less self-conscious because you don't have these guys vying for your attention. Of course we still care about how we look, but it's a completely different scenario, it's a lot less girly.
What's the best thing about being an actress?
I like to explore my character's past. What motivates them to do the things that they do. I don't know if I psychoanalyze my characters, but I like being able to get to a place where I'm examining their thought process. That's what's most fun for me.
And what is the worst thing?
I love being healthy, don't get me wrong, but the camera really does add ten pounds! (Laughs) It varies from person to person, but you really do have to be conscious about your weight, especially if your character is a sex symbol. But of course it's our job, we're a product and we get marketed.
Do you have a crazy workout or diet regimen that you have to adhere to?
I really love dance classes, and I love Dance Central. I'm such a Dance Central geek, I will play that game for hours and not realize I'm burning like 3,000 calories. I'm not going to do 1,000 crunches in the morning, but I will dance my little heart away.
What do you like to do when you're not working?
I like doing karaoke with my girlfriends. I don't get any points for karaoke but I like to think I do. I sing like Whitney Houston - but I really don't, though. (Laughs) I love rock climbing, something I've done a lot since I've been here. I'm an island girl, I grew up in Jamaica, so I like the beach, there's something about the water that completely calms me.
Is there an actor or actress that you're dying to work with?
I would really love to work with Meryl Streep. One day, it'll happen. And Cicely Tyson; I just saw her on Broadway in "Trip to Bountiful." She's 79, and I'm like, "If I can remember all of those lines when that age, oh man."
And who is your celebrity crush?
Channing Tatum is pretty hot. But he's married with a baby. (Laughs) And Eric from "True Blood" - Alexander Skarsgard? Yeah, he's pretty good!
What's your favorite TV show, aside from "Hart of Dixie."
"Scandal", I love "Scandal." Oh and I love "The New Girl", I think Zooey Deschanel is amazing, she's a comedic genius. Lets's see what else... I should totally mention another CW show. (Laughs.)
"The Vampire Diaries" maybe.
I saw "The Tomorrow People", that was good!
Well thank you so much for your time, and good luck on "Hart of Dixie."
Thanks so much!
