I don't have any first hand knowledge about the quality of Kristen Bell's latest movie THE LIFEGUARD. Our own Chris Bumbray didn't think much of it on the whole when he saw it at this year's Sundance festival. They have crafted a rather persuasive poster for the movie however, wisely making Kristen in a very Baywatch-esque one piece as the primary imagery. It's thoroughly Photoshopped though, as are most movie posters. It's possible they did a face paste onto a model's body. I wouldn't put it past them. I doubt the actual sight of Kristen in a lifeguard suit looks much different, so not a huge deal.
The film explores the life of a young reporter who goes through a crisis, drops out of her life, moves back home and becomes a lifeguard at the community pool as she tries to figure herself out. Sounds a lot like a number of movies coming out lately about 30-somethings who can't keep it together in the modern world. Frankly, the whole idea of such people losing their shit and failing at life is getting a little old. I'm practically living that life already, so I need not go to the movies to see more of it. I'm also getting tired of the opposite side of the modern movie-making approach, which seems to be about destroying cities in apocalyptic orgies of CGI. Someone create a happy medium between those two extremes and they'll get my money.
