For me it'll always and forever be Vera Farmiga
as the badass wife in RUNNING SCARED who took out those two creepy child molesters. And how the heck she managed to do when just hours before her cinematic hubby (I crush on Paul Walker, sue me) was going down on her in the laundry room. Movies like THE CONJURING
get under my skin something fierce. First of all, I don't have any true religious affiliations other than the karmic effect. Don't be a dick or the world will come and rape you later. It seems like so many of these creepy-crawler, possession and all that mumbo-jumbo films rely on you having been properly indoctrinated by your parents to fear deities that you had never seen, had no proof of but were supposed to have blind faith in them being there. (This is where I casually drop that I think THE EXORCIST sucks. It's not scary to me. It's cheesy and backsplash of rancid chili over-the-top and I can't fathom why people like it, other than the chupacabra's gonna get you if you're not a good little boy or girl dealie.) I grew up in a heavily Catholic (never mind my mom's generation who were Mexicans in our town believed in every Santeria remedy and then their kids, those of my age generation, believed whatever the hell they wanted to and acted like non-committal buffet believers) town and this type of movie scares the shit out of them. AND THEY BRING THEIR KIDS. TO LATE NIGHT SHOWINGS. *palm*forehead* Definitely waiting for the DVD release of this one.
