So, I know that this was covered on the main site, but being that I'm a Roller Derby nut, I figured I'd throw in these shots as well. The movie
WHIP IT! is based on a book, for those who don't know, and centers around banked track roller derby. Banked track tends to be more "professional" while the current rise in derby comes from the WFTDA (Women's Flat Track Derby Association) part of the sport. Any flat slick surface and you've got yourself a full-contact
sport.
I'm laughing as I look at Juliette Lewis' costume for the movie only because it reminds me of a very similar one that Vicious Ticious #32 from our local team wore. (I wonder if she'll kill me if I post that picture as comparison...) But most importantly, don't get the movie confused with the sport that is currently on an upswing. Look around and find out where your local league is playing and show your support.

Ellen Page
I'm happy to see it garner more attention, as long as they don't make a comedy out of it.

I love Ellen Page which is why I decided to check out the book in the first place, to give me an idea what to expect from the movie. I think this will be a great role for her. She fits the part perfectly.
This was another great article by the way. Cherry, I would have never expected you to be a Roller Derby
