Bio / Info
Daughter of former football player Phillippi Sparks, Jordin was the youngest person to win the top prize on "American Idol" when she took the crown during season six at the age of 17. She was also the first person of color and the first non-Southerner to win. Jordin's debut album was self-titled and featured the Top 40 hit, "Tattoo" and "No Air." Her second album, "Battlefield" was released in 2009 with the biggest hit being the song of the same title. She began appearing on Nickelodeon and Disney Channel shows as herself in the late 2000's and in 2012 was cast in her first leading acting role in the movie SPARKLE. Has been criticized by many for speaking out at the VMAs when host Russell Brand mocked purity rings, claiming that "It's not bad to wear a promise ring because not everybody, guy or girl, wants to be a slut." She stands behind that remark today, saying only if she had been better prepared, she might have worded it slightly differently.
