Born Lucille Francis Ryan in Mount Albert, Auckland, New Zealand started her career in the late 1980's, early 1990's, with small roles on Australian television. In 1995, she was cast as Xena in "Xena: Warrior Princess" and continued in the role for the following six seasons of the show. Her body-double and stunt double for the show, Zoe Bell, subsequently was taken notice of by director Quentin Tarantino and branched her own acting career off that work. In 1988, Lucy married Garth Lawless, thus adopting her married name as her working name. The couple were married for 7 years and have one daughter together. Lawless remarried in 1998 and has two children with current husband, producer Robert G. Tapert.
