Bio / Info
Rooney Mara is one of four children born to New York Giants executive Timothy Christopher Mara and is the granddaughter of Art Rooney, Sr., the founder of the Pittsburgh Steelers football franchise. Beginning her acting career with a straight-to-DVD movie, URBAN LEGENDS: BLOODY MARY with a very small role, Rooney did very little acting until she caught on with her role opposite Michael Cera in YOUTH IN REVOLT from 2009. In 2010, Mara graduated from New York University, where she studied psychology and international relations, focusing on non-profit organizations. That same year she was cast in several big spotlight films, such as the role of Nancy in the remake of Wes Craven's NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and a notable role opposite Jessie Eisenberg in THE SOCIAL NETWORK. Her biggest coup in Hollywood was when she landed the much sought-after role of Lisbeth Salander, from the popular series of Steig Larsson books, starting with THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, as being brought to the screen in an English version by director David Fincher, who directed Mara in THE SOCIAL NETWORK as well.
