What's it about
A movie nerd wins a walk-on role in a horror flick with some serious scream queens. People start kicking the bucket and suspect that the ghost of Scarlett May (an old film siren) is wiping people out.
Is it good movie?
Poor Eddie Furlong. I'm not sure if he's got a bad attitude or a serious drug problem but this guy has fallen far off his Hollywood horse that he rode through Terminator 2. And boy, does he ever look like hell in this movie- the dude has let himself go. Luckily we've got the always wonderful Tony Todd in a role as a detective on the scene and Lance Henriksen as the shady and villainous studio head who's running the show.
To be honest though, this movie isn't totally garbage. The cast is game and there's lots of little cameos to dig. Henriksen is quirky and evil, Todd is a scenery chewer and Furlong holds his own despite looking awful. Even Tiffany Shepis isn't awful in this one as the famed scream queen Cassie Blue. There's some dark humor peppered throughout too which you might dig, depending on your taste (gnome killer, anyone?).
The monster's pretty decent and the gore will flow throughout the film. Even the story's not that bad, although the Scarlett May stuff tends to fall a bit flat from time to time and the whole thing feels a bit bloated now and then.
Despite Furlong's general nastiness, this little slasher rises above the typical one by having a brain, a good cast, nice gore and some decent humor. Hey, this was pretty good!

This one was a screener so I can't comment on the DVD release but I recommend this little flick because it has some smarts in its head and was just a fun watch. Find it, rent it, or buy it if you're a big enough fan of the Furlong.
