What's it about
Back in the day, the Riggs family ran a local amusement park. One of that cleanup crew decides to feed his pork sword into the boss' sixteen year old daughter, and she doesn't complain. Naturally, Mr. Riggs gets rid of this guy when he catches him in the act while his daughter claims rape. This might not have been the best idea though because Jimmy the 'rapist' uses what little brainpower he has to return to the park and wipe out the family. This could be a movie in itself, but instead we have the 'stupid students making a movie about what happened' thing as our main plot. Naturally, Jimmy gets sprung from the nuthouse and starts making mincemeat out of our disposable teens.
Is it good movie?
First of all, this movie serves one purpose, and that's to satisfy fans of nasty, ultraviolet gore. Really, I can't think of another reason why it would need to exist. The plot is paper thin, the acting is terrible (same old overgrown actors bumbling their way through brutal dialogue) and you don't care about what's going to happen to these kids as long as they get wiped out.

This isn't to say that everyone sucks, I will be fair and put over Susie Silva, our female heroine who manages to be quite lovely and display a bit of acting chops. The cast of characters here is full of stereotypes and provide some real laughs as the movie goes on. Sure, there's a few goofy plot twists but you'll be showing this to your friends for the thrills, not the story.

With that being said, this isn't about acting. The film looks and feels low budget, but manages to horrify throughout its runtime. I mean, this is some nasty, brutal stuff here . You'll see people getting body parts ripped off, internal organs being slowly pulled out, being chopped up, and more. This is a torturous watch.

This isn't to say that this film belongs under your bed and hidden away where no one dare watch it. The thing is, it's really goofy and over the top. Sure, seeing people impaled around an amusement park is nasty, but there's something so absurd about it that it's hard not to laugh after awhile. If you can stick with Devil's Grove past the first 15 minutes, you'll likely be entertained to no end. It's real an old school throwback to the grind house days of pure excess that is not ashamed of what it's doing.

At the end of the day, if you love boobs, tons of blood and a good old fashioned carnival massacre, you'll love Devil's Grove.

The Extras
The only real extra is a commentary track with directors R. Zoe Judd and Michael Zein who are joined by actress Kim Magness. This is an informative track where the folks reminisce about the tough parts of making the film and how it came to be. They're honest, self-deprecating and funny. Good stuff.

The only other extra is a photo gallery.
Last Call
If you're going to present me with a low-budget horror flick, give me a reason to want to get through it. Devil's Grove definitely provided me with some fun moments and gore that never gave up. For that, I commend and recommend it.
