What's it about
Some girls who make really bad decisions continue to do so when they are attracted to a couple of dudes who claim to have the run of a fancy yacht. As if this invitation to rape wasn't bad enough, someone ends up dying in a freak accident while on the boat. All of this leads to chaos, as different people have different ideas about what it takes to get through this little matter.
Is it good movie?
Initially, I didn't think much of this movie. I thought it had a stupid bunch of characters and to be honest, that usually kills a horror movie that takes itself seriously in my opinion. Amazingly, this film rises above its stupid characters to build an atmosphere that remains tense and gripping throughout its runtime.

I mean, come on. The girls immediately hook up with these guys and run right to their boat and then start taking ecstasy and smoking crack(?). Then something really bad happens (think about the movie's title) which results in death and everything goes really wrong. This is where the film turns up the heat.

Essentially, this movie turns into a really morbid version of a terrible reality show on the high seas. As Heath Ledger's Joker once said, when the chips are down, civilized people will eat each other. This statements rings true as you find out what people are really made of and the horrible (and sometimes honorable) things that they will do when backs are up against the wall.

On top of this, this movie is brutal as can be. I won't give away the gory bits but they are present and they are in abundance. There are some brilliant kills in this one and you won't see them all coming. There's also a fair amount of graphic sex too, so you might not want to watch this with Mom or Dad.

You might also be forewarned- this movie is British. I'm not trying to take anything away from the film because the acting was great but I can tell you this: it can be hard to understand what people are saying. Their accents are really thick and there is NO subtitle option (come on!).

If you're up for some suspense and gut-knotting thrills, you should definitely watch this movie. It was far better than I’d expected it to be while being violent and sexy at the same time and somehow still avoiding exploitation.
Video / Audio
Video is presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen and looks mediocre. It was sharp at times, but the print didn't always look clean and colors were off through the film.

The main audio track is Dolby Digital 5.1 and is also nothing to write home about. There is nothing special about it at all, why run 5 speakers if they're always projecting the same thing at the same level?
The Extras
We begin things with an audio commentary featuring director Oliver Blackburn and producer Angus Lamont. This one is heavy with Blackburn taking most of the track, but it is worth listening to as the man knows his stuff.

Next we get interviews- three sets of them. We get Tom Burke with Julian Morris, Jay Taykor with Rob Boulter and the last interview features Nichola Burly with Jaime Whinstone and Sian Breckin. Great little interviews, although they don't last long enough to get as in-depth as you might like.

An Interview with Olly Blackburn comes up next and runs about 15 minutes long and retreads a lot of what he says during the commentary track. Still though, he covers a fair amount of ground and if you wanted to know more details about the sex scene, this is your chance.

The Making of Donkey Punch is your standard 20 minute EPK that features interviews and behind the scenes footage.

There are also six deleted scenes which run 12 minutes total and add absolutely nothing to the proceedings and were worthy of being cut.
Last Call
I really enjoyed Donkey Punch. I was involved from the start to the finish and perhaps my dislike of the characters was almost used as a hook to keep my eyes transfixed on the screen. It's bloody and brutal and completely plausible. Dig it.
