What's it about

An apparent zombie infestation results from medical testing in Iraq. Only one soldier escapes, but he's planning to keep experiments going in an apartment complex named the Necropolitan. As you can imagine things go a little awry.

Is it good movie?

I have to admit that I don't dig zombie movies for the most part. That said, 28 Days Later did a good job of moving us past the shuffling masses of braindead boredom, and helped re-invigorate a tired sub-genre. Evilution definitely takes advantage of that and provides plenty of high intensity undead attacks handled with admirable skill.

On top of that the cinematography is top notch, and is more than ably assisted by outstanding stunt work and impressively bloody F/X. And they do give us boobies. Two instances of completely gratuitous mammary magnificence that are totally appreciated in a flick of this nature.

Problem is, the story is a poorly developed mismash of everything from gang bangers and military conspiracies, to zombie and alien infestations mixed with an attempt to pull in Lovecraftian themes. Ambitious for sure, but it basically falls flat across the board.

This is largely due to poor casting, and performances that often grate the nerves. Unfortunately it never gets quite bad enough to pull B-movie enjoyment from it. A shame really, because there is obviously some serious behind the lens talent at work.

Kinda of like a cake with great frosting, but a rotten center, this sucker looks amazing, features an ass-kicking soundtrack, and every once in a while even made me jump a little bit. But it still falls a shade short of watchable because the story and acting are mediocre at best, and often times just plain bad.
