What's it about
Picking up where the last flick left off, Jason is seemingly alive and ready to terrorize campers. This is Jasonís first time at the slasher helm, and heís sackhead Jason, for all 2 of you who still havenít seen this movie.
Is it good movie?
Iím a huge fan of the Friday the 13th movies. I know it may be atypical of me to like movies that are so unabashedly bad, but I canít help it. Jason is really what got me into horror and I loved the repetition, tits and blood when I was a young awkward teenager. As an older awkward man, I still love the idea of the Friday flicks but find some of them hard to watch. I guess each one has its merits. The first flick is the pioneer, the second one introduces Jason as the face of the franchise, the third is in 3D and so on.

Unfortunately, I didnít absolutely love revisiting this one. The only part I remembered from prior viewings was the end, and it isnít very well done. There is very little plot here- you know what? I donít think Iím going to waste paragraphs detailing the shortcomings of a Friday movie. Ripping Friday the 13th part 2 for its faults is sort of like saying Casablanca sucks for being in black and white (yeah, I just compared F13 to Casablanca).

The movie sucks, it does. But, it sucks so good. You can tell almost right away that this is a cash-grab because they actually got Adrienne King to show up and get killed off, which is a great little cameo and a fun way to start things off. After that, this movie is basically a remake, following the same pattern that almost every movie afterwards would follow. There are cookie cutter characters, boobs, drugs, sex and blood.

Being a bit more objective, as a Friday fan, this isnít a very memorable movie for me. Sure, it introduces Jason and features the decapitated head of Mrs. Voorhees, but it just isnít really gripping. The kills are decent enough for the time and the effects arenít awful but still, this isnít a thrilling entry. You may feel differently, but Iím just not a huge fan of the first two films, although I can appreciate what they add to the franchise.
Video / Audio
Video comes in 2.35:1 widescreen and looks about as good as it possibly could. There were times when I was completely unimpressed, but yet there were also times when Iíd catch myself wondering if this was a modern movie. I think this is mostly because the high quality transfer picks up a LOT of grain on the print.

Audio comes in Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround and really showcases the filmís score, but not much else. Not quite as good as the video track.
The Extras
You want some features? Letís start with Inside "Crystal Lake Memories", a great little primer for an excellent coffee table book that came out a few years ago. My girlfriend bought me that book when it came out and I still read it all the time. This is a short feature that gives a bit of insight into this movie and should prompt you to run out and buy it, I say.

Next is Jason Forever, a half hour bit which includes fanboys asking 4 Jason actors (yeah, Kane is there) some questions youíve likely heard answered before. Still, a good watch if youíre new to the series.

You also get Friday's Legacy: Horror Conventions, which is a fluff piece from a convention in 2008 featuring actors talking about random bits and pieces of their moment in the spotlight and how theyíre clinging to it.

Finally, thereís Lost Tales from Camp Blood part 2, which seems to be a continuation of some sort of fan film or something. It seems Jason-esque, until some dude in a coat is revealed as the killer. Why does this exist on this release?

There is also a trailer.
Last Call
If you bought the DVD, you donít need this Blu-Ray. If you didnít and you need great quality versions of bad film prints, then pick this up. Honestly, I really like the Friday series, I just donít love this entry.
