A young woman who was busy having sex while her parents died at home bails to her old cabin near a mysterious lake, and terrifyingly enough, people start dying.
Hey, don't get me wrong. I support and enjoy independant horror flicks just as much as the next guy. I can understand when a budget isn't huge and film quality isn't the greatest, but I just cannot in good conscience recommend this film. Folks, this stuff is as amateur as it gets. Ghost Lake is a poorly edited film; at least that's what I chalk the 'character development' up to.
The main character is a highly unstable and unlikeable bimbo who is biting her lower lip in one frame, and then jumping all over a dude in the next. And I must say it: the acting in this flick is absolutely brutal (Ms.Adair, Ms.Decker, i'm looking at you), just awful stuff, some of the worst i've seen.
Just because a flick is independant doesn't mean the actors need to have the delivery of grade school children. This is why the flick just doesn't work for me- I have absolutely zero emotional attachment to the characters, and the two principal ones are completely moronic, and pretty much deserve to die.
I do give props to the concept though, a lake which is inhabited by spirits which are trapped within it? That's an awesome concept, and the cover art on the DVD really makes one believe that the movie will rock appropriately. It does not. The action is slow moving, and the effects are decidedly lame (even though that is acceptable), and this all adds up to make a picture that is rather difficult to sit through. Dudes will appreciate some ample T&A sprinkled throughout the flick though. My final words of advice? Stay away from Ghost Lake..you'll sink to the bottom for sure.
This movie was not a fun one to watch, not even 'so bad it's good' type stuff- not for me anyway. There's a quote on the cover of this DVD from a gentleman named Phil Brown, who says it's one of the 'best horror movies i've seen all year', and I absolutely have to wonder what else this guy is forced to watch! This one might be up your alley at 2am with nothing to do, but I just can't recommend it.
