What's it about
A group of friends get into a car crash when a murder of crows crash into their windshield. They look for help at a house in the middle of a cornfield nearby, and you can probably guess how well that ends up for them. Before long they realize they are trapped at the mercy of a pissed off ghost and a group of scarecrows with serious anger issues.
Is it good movie?
This is one of those films that just screams set piece. It feels like somebody found an old house in the middle of a cornfield and thought, "Hey, let's make a movie here!" Which works out for as far as it goes, unfortunately it doesn't go quite far enough.

Overall the protagonists are quite strong, especially Wes Chatham as a jock who may be a little too much of a stand up guy, and Devon Graye as a believably geeky, but not irritatingly so member of the crew. Rounding things out is C.J. Thomason adding some practical tension in his disagreements with the others, and the outstandingly named Tammin Sursok, who adds at least a little girl vibe to the proceedings.

Despite an engaging cast, though, this flick feels stretched even at a meager 80 minutes. The attack scenes in the the cornfield are exciting enough when they're going on, but outside of that there is precious little going on to engage our attention. And the back-story isn't particularly interesting.

Without the strong performances and legitimately creepy scarecrows slicing folks up, this would be an unwatchable film, but with those strengths in tow HUSK manages to be a passable stalk flick. Think of it like a low rent above ground JAWS knock off.

Last Call
There's not really any reason to go out of your way to see HUSK, but it does have enough going for it to merit a look if you get the chance and have 80 minutes to kill. I would not be at all surprised to see most of the cast get bigger opportunities, so it may serve as a good trivia point in the future at the very least.
