Six stupid teenage-types sneak into an old factory. That's not all though, not only do they sneak in, but they're sneaking into a former murder ground, where an escaped circus freak named Monstrosity killed people many years ago.
I'm all for independent cinema and I think that a good indie flick can go a long way in today's sea of sequels and remakes. Acting is rarely good, and production values are often in the basement, but a good plot can go a long way. Unfortunately in the case of Monstrosity
, it fails on nearly every level.
I'm all for a slasher/murder mystery type flick, but this was just really hard for me to watch. I couldn't help shake the feeling that I was watching an awful school play put on by adults. There's really nothing redeemable about the way the film is shot. The camera is shaky, the flick looks washed out and some of the actors look like they're wearing a pound of makeup.
And the acting, good god is it bad. It's beyond bad- it's just terrible. I think that my main point here is that I couldn't find a way for this film to be entertaining on nearly any level. Monstrosity
seems to be aware that it is a silly horror flick, but the production and acting are so bad that I don't know how anyone could sit through it in one sitting, and if they could, how could they really truly enjoy it?
reminded me a lot of a YTV pilot that never got aired. I just really didn't enjoy it at all. The plot is moderately well written, but very poorly executed. There’s a bit of humour to be found as well, but I didn't think very much of it was funny. The action is lame and the killer, Monstrosity
is not intimidating or convincing at all. Some of the transitions are just brutal and you just can't feel much for any of the characters. I'm sorry I can't find much to say that's good about this- its tongue in cheek, but that doesn't mean you should watch it.
I can't in good conscience recommend this film to anyone. I think it's the kind of thing that I could make myself, and then I would only show it to my friends. I don't know how or why it really got distributed. It won't scare you, it won't make you jump and might make you laugh once or twice. I hate to sound like I don't appreciate horror, but I couldn't get into this film even a little bit.
