What's it about
When a group of natives are relocated due to some atomic research, they decide to take revenge on the business men causing the trouble. Along for the ride is Papaya, a lovely lady who gives the most painful blowjob ever. Oh yeah, and it has sex.
Is it good movie?
Back in the day when I first was introduced to the world of cable television, I discovered a world of wonderment. It was a place of mystery and bare breasts. Today, you know it as Skinemax. Yes, there were movies like Black Emmanuelle or Wild and Beautiful on Ibiza. It was sexploitation at its finest. But I never did see Papaya: Love Goddess of the Cannibals… that is, until now. It is everything that Emmanuelle or Ibiza was, except with the added bonus of gore. But really, aside from one dude getting his penis bitten off, and a couple of pigs being cut open with their innards spilling out all over the floor, there was very little in the gore department. It was as if they wanted to create an Emmanuelle movie, but with elements of Cannibal Holocaust. And it would have worked too, if the scenes of blood and violence weren’t so damn silly.
Basically, there is a group of men that had to relocate a bunch of natives so they could do some atomic research where they once lived. These natives are damn well pissed off and lucky for them, they are all into cannibalism and killing. Although very little cannibalism is involved, and only minor amounts of killing. In one of the most bizarre sequences, a man is sacrificed, and a bunch of these natives get naked and dance to what sounds like cheap disco. Wait a second, did I say naked? Well of course I did, because that is really what this film is about. You take Melissa Chimenti and Sirpa Lane and have them undress… often. And you have Joe D’Amato directing, who also took on a number of Emmanuelle films. So he of course goes for the gusto when he explores the two ladies having sex with a couple of guys and even with each other. Although this is soft core, it has a considerable amount of nudity. And Ms. Chimenti as Papaya really messes with some guys junk when she rubs papaya (the fruit) all over it and soon bites it off.
Papaya is a sex flick with some murderous elements thrown in. Yet the darker tale of violence is so nonchalant that it really serves no purpose. Well, aside from getting to that scene of Papaya and that journalist chick getting their freak on. I will say that both are very attractive and unafraid of the sexuality in the film. So if you are a fan of these dated, Italian sex flicks, this will be a bunch of fun for you. But if you are looking for another Cannibal Holocaust, this may not be your preferred taste. It is silly and stupid, but there is a bit of fun watching this sort of sleazy entertainment. It has it all, awful dubbing, nudity, a throw away plot, nudity, and some hot chicks… and yes, nudity.
Video / Audio
Video: For the most part, this 1.85:1 Widescreen transfer is not too bad, considering the look of the film. It does appear grainy at times, but hey, it adds to the atmosphere.
Audio: I say get naked and dance disco style for the Dolby Digital. Come on, shake it. The sound is pretty good here.
Papaya was having too much fun with gory orgies and such for any special features. Although she does show off her Trailer.
Papaya: Love Goddess of the Cannibals is exactly as it sounds. It is a Joe D’Amato skin flick that offers up a whole lot of nudity, a couple of “gore” shots and some really scary dubbing. If you want something along the lines of Cannibal Holocaust, this ain’t it. But the locations are pretty beautiful, and both Melissa Chimenti and Finnish hottie, Serpa Lane offer up plenty of eye candy. Sorta sick, but not really sick enough for a gory good time. Uncut and uncensored. It is purely for pants around the ankles entertainment.
