Those hungry, prehistoric piranha that previously took one huge bite out of Lake Havasu spring breakers are back this time finding a way into extra wet water park on opening day. Prepare to let the blood and boobs fly!
Holy shit, I was preparing myself to hate this movie. It was out in theaters for, like, 5 days and then on demand, plus, it was panned by practically everyone, even horror critics! Plus, I absolutely loved Alex Aja's previous PIRANHA 3D. Well, my fellow horror flick lovers, I don't think you have too much to fear, in terms of horror movie rentals at least. Maybe it was because I kept waiting to hate this thing, but I ended up having a pretty enjoyable time.
Let's get one thing straight. Yes, this 3DD doesn't really come close to the campy brilliance of Mr. Aja's part 1. So, don't go in expecting bigger and better. That ain't happening and maybe that's why even the horror buffs didn't like it. However, in terms of a worthy sequel that offers a fun time that many would enjoy at home with a couple of buds and Buds, 3DD fills the bill quite nicely. Let us not forget, this was made by the same sicko's that did the FEAST flicks, so we're definitely dealing with true genre lovers. Gore, gratuitous nudity and dialogue are not shyed away from in the slightest. Let's put it this way: if you can roll with a baby piranha swimming up a chick's vagina only to come back out at the most oportune of times, then you should thoroughly enjoy this flick.
Again, this movie was not made by idiots, so the script does offer up a fair share of funny lines and sight gags. There's absolutely zero tension and scares, but I'm pretty sure that ain't the purpose here. All the actors performances are perfectly fine. Really enjoyed Christopher Lloyd and Ving Rhames reprising their roles briefly. Love Danielle Panabaker as the smart female lead. And, I've gotta say, that Mr. David Hasselhoff truly does steal the show as... himself!
From the short running length and the fact that it doesn't really measure up to the first one, I can see why 3DD was not received well. However, it in no way deserves to be thrown away as complete trash. It's definitely watchable trash.
Audio English and Spanish dolby digital.
A very chill Commentary
with the writers and the director.
A silly, but funny Story Behind the DD which shouldn't need much of a description.
A fun short called The Hoftastic World of David Hasselhoff.
Some absolutely crazy Busey's Bloopers of everyone's favorite psychopath, Gary Busey.
A bunch of commercial bits from the flick called Wet and Wild with David Koechner that is hilarious.
Some fair Deleted Scenes.
Lastly, a whacky, but kinda awesome short film called A Lesson with John McEnroe.
Let's be real clear. This movie sequel ain't better than the first one. However, it does contain a fair share of laughs and nudity (though nothing compares to Kelly Brook). There's some fun kills as well as a pretty cohesive script. Plus, it certainly beats the shit out of Shark Night 3D.
