What's it about
Kids go looking for the people who got killed in the last movie by the Rest Stop killer. Now the dude is back, although he's going to have to deal with the ghosts of the people he killed before his reign of brutality is brought to fruition.
Is it good movie?
So here we go with a sequel to a movie I've never seen- but judging by what I watched, it isn't really necessary. Ultimately, Rest Stop 2 isn't a very good movie, but you probably knew that already. I'll admit it though- I'm a sucker for an okay slasher. I thought that the Hitcher remake was decent, but flawed, and this one looked similar.

Any movie that essentially deals with stupid people going to places they shouldn't be going to and getting killed probably won't win many Oscars and at the end of the day, this one certainly won't either. I like a good slasher movie based solely on how self-aware it is and how gory it is, a nice killer works well too. Unfortunately this movie comes out fairly bland. I mean, it's not all bad- there are a few genuine scares, but unfortunately it's not enough. There just isn't enough substance for this movie to shine on its own. The ghost subplot is an okay idea but doesn't work well enough in execution to merit much.

Let's talk about the character here- man are they ever dumb. I mean just terrible, and talk about one dimensional. It could be argued that some effort was made, but by the time I started to care even a little, the characters were happily getting hacked up. The acting isn't very good either- only Richard Tillman's character seemed to be worthy of showing chops, the rest of these kids weren't very impressive. Not bargain basement awful, but not very impressive.

You do learn a few things about the killer, but it seemed to me that this movie sort of destroys his mystique by telling a bit too much about him and exposing him in full view way too many times. Also, what was with that whole religious family deal? They didn't seem very developed or necessary.

Other than that, you'll dig the gore here- lots of derivative stuff, but very torture-pornish. Lots of red, very satisfying, too bad the rest of the movie can't say the same thing.
Video / Audio
Video is presented only in anamorphic widescreen. The transfer is relatively clean but somewhat staticky in places.

Sound comes from Dolby Digital 5.1 and is music/effects heavy; the dialogue should have been mixed a bit higher, but not bad.
The Extras
First up are some deleted scenes, about 10 minutes worth. They don't add much but are worth a look, one nice gory scene in there too.

An alternate ending runs about a minute long and is more additional footage that could have been kept.

Doomed to Repeat: The Mythology of Rest Stop is your standard EPK deal that spoils a lot of the movie and adds absolutely nothing to your knowledge, just glad handing and name dropping.

A bunch of Raw Feed trailers can be found here too.
Last Call
Another day, another low budget slasher. I didn't hate this movie but it will offer nothing but yawns unless you really have nothing better to do. It's watchable, but I can't even compare it to its sequel because I haven't seen it. Gore? Yes. Interesting killer? Kind of. Make up your minds yourself, y'all!
