What's it about
A web DJ (that sounds odd) is still trying to deal with the death of his girlfriend. In the meantime, he dives into an erotic thriller with plenty of sex, voyeurism, and obsession.
Is it good movie?
I like the premise of Strangers Online. Itís basically an old story made popular in the 1980s, the erotic thriller where lots of sex occurs along with a lot of nutty people who love sex. Here, we have super DJ Hollace Parker, who runs a sleazy web show which showcases the modern creatures of the night, people live on the net and share their lives (what they have) on web cams. Our poor DJ, four years after the death of his former lover who he was accused of killing, canít really get over it. Then a hot blond intern arrives and seduces Holland, even though he has a woman. Thus a problem. Oh, and Hollandís woman is busy getting kinky for their Peeping Tom neighbor. Strange people indeed.
Strangers Online couldnít have cost much to make. If it did, it doesnít look like. Iím not slamming it for the production value, because really for the story the film doesnít need much. Itís about people and the way they deal with their situation. However, I can be critical of the entertainment value. Unfortunately, there isnít much. Yeah, there are some hot girls and lots of nudity, but it seems as if the Internet has probably taken away the thrill for most viewers. What the movie does succeed at is providing commentary on the anonymous aspect of the Internet, a place where people can be anything if they say so. Thereís lots of clips of people webcaming themselves, talking to their camera, and flashing themselves (boy and girl). One person in particular is interesting, a masked man name Sick Rick who loves the kink. Heís creepy enough to warrant his own feature. Oh, almost forgot. The movie begins with a quote by English poet John Keats: ďThe creature has a purpose and his eyes are bright with it.Ē It least the thing tries to be literary.
Video / Audio
Video: A crisp and clear Widescreen presentation.
Audio: Presented with the power of decent sound.
Well, Strangers Online is pretty boring despite the sexy thriller genre. But at least thereís plenty of nudity and sex. Itís that going for it.
