I thought we were lucky to be seeing PHANTASM back in theaters, but Kino Lorber just one-upped the unlikely horror revival. They will be resurrecting the 1981 Canuxploitation classic THE PIT with a brand new 2K restoration. Coming to limited theaters this October, it will also hit Blu-Ray and DVD on the 18th.

Here's the specials features you can expect on the release:

  • Interview with Star Sammy Snyders
  • Interview with Star Jeannie Elias
  • Interview with Screenwriter Ian A. Stuart
  • Interview with Composer Victor Davies
  • Audio Commentary by Film Historians Paul Corupe and Jason Pichonsky

You can check for the full list of dates and get tickets HERE and you can pre-order your personal copy HERE.

Twelve-year old Jamie is one creepy kid. He has a perverse obsession with sex, his only friend is an evil teddy bear, and he’s the only one who knows about the hole in the forest where he feeds raw meat to a ravenous pack of mutant troglodytes. But Jamie will teach them all a lesson, the kids who teased him, the mean old lady down the street, even his pretty new babysitter. Soon they—and his entire town—will face the flesh-eating horror of The Pit!

Directed by Lew Lehman, THE PIT stars Sammy Snyders, Jeannie Elias, Sonja Smith, Laura Hollingsworth, and Richard Alden. Check out a brand new trailer below!

Just a bad movie

Not all of these older horror films are worthy of rediscovery.

I am glad that knowledgeable horrorheads will get to experience The Pit on the big screen, and I am glad to have a disk copy ordered. However, they need to schedule a screening around here. Ideally, it would occur in the old restored theater (popular with the cult movies crowd) that we have in our downtown. The Pit was filmed around here, in this community.
