Halloween = cash cow franchise

and therefore they'll never stop making them. Make your peace with it people. Be it sequel, reboot or remake it will continue sooner or later. For me I'm happy with that as long as they stop the white trash element and don't return to the lame Thorn storyline. There was alway a better 8th movie for me in my mind with Curtis' Laurie returning home to Haddonfield thinking all is safe when Michael shows up again. While I didn't think Zombie's movies were quite the abomination some claim them to be

For me I'm happy with that as long as they stop the white trash element and don't return to the lame Thorn storyline. There was alway a better 8th movie for me in my mind with Curtis' Laurie returning home to Haddonfield thinking all is safe when Michael shows up again. While I didn't think Zombie's movies were quite the abomination some claim them to be (opinion is a lovely thing though so feel free to have yours) they were far from great. I've said it before in other posts but I have no interest in what makes a monster like Michael Myers, he didn't need white trash roots and a terrible upbringing. He was more terrifying being the sweet little 6 year old suburban kid who suddenly and inexplicably snapped. They should have made Danielle Harris the lead in 2, that would've been a nice twist, especially as having her survive H1 brought very little to H2 except the enjoyment of seeing her on screen. She basically showed up to be killed in a virtually identical scene and fashion of her attack in the first movie. Her relationship with Laurie could have been explored and exploited more (easy - not in that way). The casting with the exception of Harris and Dourif was not great. Even actors I enjoy seeing (Danny Trejo for example)were wasted. Compton was awful, whining and over acting (especially in H2)plus her Laurie wasn't exactly the tough and resourceful heroine she should have been. It was hard to care for her never mind root for her, hence my thoughts Annie should've taken over the lead role mantle. As for McDowell his Loomis was every bit as grating as Compton. Far too much pomposity and over acting. We were supposed to want these characters to live not to will their demise. I enjoyed precisely 6 things about Zombie's movies - Michael's mask (a nice and cool variation IMO)H2's hospital opening (the extended version), the last 3rd of H1 where it actually feels like a Halloween movie rather than America's funniest Hobo psycho killers, Danielle Harris, Brad Dourif and seeing Margot Kidder on screen again.
As for who should make it? Well Lussier and co did a great job with MBV, it looked and felt like a slasher movie with good R rated kills. PD (again sorry but I don't quite see them as the horror sacrelege makers most seem to)would definately adhere to a more Halloween/slasher feel so Im fine with either.

If Marcus Nispel was involved , I'd be OKAY with a Platinum Dunes work , otherwise , Lussier and Farmer's vision seemed okay to me . No need for a re-boot , and keep Zombie as far away as possible .

At least I hope this will be as good as My Bloody Valentine 3D remake.

Can I pick another option?

Anything following Zombie's "movie" and I'm out. Halloween 2 was an epic trainwreck. I don't care if you do something new, but H2 was on the level of JAWS The Revenge. Just make a Halloween movie. Don't need to start over...don't need to tie it to any movie directly. Don't give Michael any motivation. Michael+Haddonfield+ new characters to follow and care about.

I'll take option six:
Go back to the old continuity and ignore the Zombie mess.

I loved Rob Zombie's vision, and I think Lussier and Farmer were going to sort of go back to the original feel without discarding those films which I think is the best way to go. I know they wanted to have Laurie recovering in a mental ward where Michael eventually shows up, that would have been fine with me!

As much as I would love to say "stop making them" i know that A) that will never happen if they continue to make money and B) rob zombie already fucked the series up with his second installment...so if it's going to happen i say just do a whole reboot and start fresh. Scott Taylor Compton is SO fucking annoying as Laurie, she became a psychotic bitch in Halloween II...just do what Halloween 4 did, start with all new babysitting characters.

Scout became a psychotic bitch in H2 because the script called for it. You can't blame an actress for doing her job.

BTZombie88, while I agree it was mostly the script in part II that sucked, I wasn't too crazy about her portrayal in the first film either. She just didn't pull off the character of Laurie in my opinion. Either way, even if Scout wasn't the problem they can't really continue with her character anymore, where do you go with that character after part II? Should've killed her and kept Annie alive, at least she was likeable!

True you can't blame an actor for following direction and bringing to life what's in the script you can blame them for a terrible performance.
Laboni - totally agree on Annie. She and Dourif's Sheriff Brackett were about the only characters I liked
